How can I request a refill if I do not recall the prescription number?
If you have misplaced the prescription number of the medication that you need, simply call during normal business hours and provide our clerk with your name, address, phone number and the name of the medication that you require. If you phone after hours, this information may also be left on our voice mail system. Please be certain to leave a phone number where you may be reached in the event that our staff needs to contact you.

What is the best way to request a prescription refill?
The best way to request a prescription refill is to phone the request in to our automated system. If your prescription has refills remaining and has not expired, we suggest that you submit your request one to two business days in advance. As we are normally able to order medications for the next business day, this advanced notice will help to ensure that your order will be complete when you come to pick it up. If your prescription is a medication that is specially compounded by our pharmacists, please be certain to allow additional time for this to occur.

Can my prescription refill be picked up the same day that I request it?
In most cases, yes. Our pharmacy staff will process refill requests that are phoned in to our automated refill system or to one of our clerks as soon as possible after the request has been made. Please be aware that during peak business hours, this process may take several hours. Our automated system and clerks always attempt to provide our patients with an estimated pick-up time, however this time should be regarded as merely an estimate. As different factors may arise, please phone back and inquire about the status of your request prior to visiting us in person to pick up the medication. As noted above, making your request one to two business days in advance will help to ensure that your order will be complete when you come to pick it up. Of course, if you are urgently in of a medication, be certain to speak with one of our clerks and alert them of the urgent circumstances.

How do I request a refill if my prescription has no refills remaining or is expired?
If your prescription has no refills remaining or the order is expired, your provider must authorize any additional refills. If your Kaye’s prescription number begins with a “7” or a “4”, your provider may make this authorization over the telephone or via facsimile. Generally the easiest way to request this authorization is to phone your provider’s office and request that they provide our pharmacy staff with an authorization. Some providers request that refill requests be made only by pharmacy staff. If this is the case with your provider, you may phone your request into our automated refill system, which is able to submit refill requests to most providers via facsimile. In either case, we highly recommend that you submit your refill request three to four business days in advance to allow time for your provider’s office to process the request and for Kaye’s to order your medication, if the need should arise.

How long can I refill a prescription before my provider’s order expires?
Most prescriptions may be filled for one year from the date of the initial fill. Kaye’s assigns a prescription number beginning with “7” to these prescriptions. If your Kaye’s prescription number begins with a “4”, State law dictates that this medication may only be refilled for six months from the date of the initial fill. Finally, if your Kaye’s prescription number begins with a “2”, State law dictates that this medication may not be refilled. If you require an additional supply of a medication whose prescription number begins with a “2”, your provider must provide you with a new written prescription each time you require an additional supply. Patients that are covered by the State of Connecticut’s Medicaid and ConnPace programs should be aware that the State requires a new authorization from your provider every six months, even if your refill number begins with a "7".
